“I Shall,
Proceed,
And Continue,
To Rock The Mic.”
- Black Thought of The Roots
I heard these words, and IMMEDIATELY I was a fan of The Mighty Roots Crew of late night fame, well before they were on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The song, “Proceed'“ on their 1995 album, began with these words, and Resonance was known.
That is how fast Resonance connects art with individual, presence with person, and vibe with victory.
I did not discover The Roots, though those sonics and lyrics felt like a discovery to my whole ecosystem. As I sit in the sun here in Athens Georgia on a self-designed writing retreat 30 years later writing this, I can feel the same significance of every word of that record.

Resonance Radiating
I imagine there’s an album like that for you. If not an album, then maybe a hug from an Aunt, the sound of a familiar voice singing your name, the stare of your dog as you see their desire for a walk, the smell of a lover’s perfume. A sensational sensorial signal that ignites the significance of a scenario in your life. That is the ultrasonic nature of resonance in the now.
Resonance precedes every insight that transforms us.
It is the frequency that shows up before the words. The subtle sensation that something is real —> even if we can’t explain why.
Resonance is the signature of The Listener’s Path.
—> Resonance Journaling Prompts
When did you last listen to your life, not for content, but for current?
When did your stomach, your breath, your skin tell you the truth before your brain built the explanation?
Where do I feel clarity before understanding?
When has resonance led me despite reason?
In May 2022, I found myself on a 10-Day Vipasanna Meditation Retreat on a summer camp site in Upstate NY.
No Phone.
No Notebook.
No Writing.
No Talking.
This is called Noble Silence and each of us at the retreat was in this observance by the guidelines of the retreat’s practicum.
Vipasanna was a beautiful experience because throughout the 10 Days (and nights) I was essentially exploring my own resonance… the sensations in my body and in my experience that are exclusive to me. In Noble Silence, there is not one intruding your space or your meditation - other than the instructor’s recorded guidance. Even then only their voice is present.
What I feel is my own and mine to own, hold, and release in each moment of the retreat. Vipasanna is deep connection with the sensations that accompany our three dimensional experience on Earth.
Somewhere around Day Five, I was having such a great time in my silent observation of my existence that I was singing songs to my self that helped connect me deeper to the joys of uninterrupted moments ::
“It’s a Lazy Afternoon…” - Sung by Sista Urban and Rachel Graham
“I Remain Calm…” - Rapped by Black Thought and Questlove
Both of these tracks are on that 1995 album ‘Do Your Want More?!!!??!’ by The Roots, and that calm presence of an unobligated afternoon that I was vibing to let me know that resonance is also a time-traveling truth meant to support me in my presence.
The rhythms of my past kept me great company in my time of Joy, Peace, and Perseverance in the woods with my self.
Resonance is how one knows that they have Åudience ::
The capacity to receive resonance as meaningful information.

FIELDNOTE: THE SHAPE OF A THOUGHT IN SILENCE
Some of the clearest truths don’t speak. They arrange you.
There is no trumpet. No spark. No calendar reminder. Only the subtle shift: breath meeting stillness, posture adjusting without decision, a long blink before a new beginning.
That was me one morning… just sitting. A silence hung in the air, but it wasn’t empty. It was loaded. Quiet, yes. But full of pressure. Like something alive had taken its seat next to me.
And then the thought came. Not in words, but in form.
It had weight. It had shape. I knew what it meant without knowing how. My nervous system translated it before my mind did. I didn’t write it down, I let it echo. And when I rose, my body moved differently. My choices recalibrated. My Yeses and Nopes carried new accuracy.
This is how some thoughts move: not as sentences, but as shapes that reconfigure our geometry. You don’t need to trap them. You only need to notice the space they alter.
What shape is your next knowing taking?
"I wrote this so that you might hear something in your own life more clearly.
You’re not here by accident.
You’re already listening.
Welcome to The Listener’s Path.”
